Street Bus passing through Bruge on East Hastings Street7 viewsThe block of Bruge that lands on East Hastings.

The Knook, back alley behind East Hastings Street front.11 viewsAptly named the Knook, this rustic entrance at first gives the impression of dispair and isolation. Of an area no one should venture. Don't let that fool you. Beyond, deep within the alleyway, the parking area's behind all the buildings of the block converge as one. The Bizaar of the real Rroma world lives here. When not out on the streets in a Morrocan-esqu environment, most Rroma barter, trade, play and hang here.

Triumph Blvd, Corner of Pandora. Bruge Area9 viewsAs you turn off Pandora to head North West on Triumph, you walk beneath the multi-colored plex of tenements known locally simply as the Roost. This is where many of the elderly and young smaller familie live who populate Bruge. Here you will find a Buso living across the hall from a Sinti and even possibly a Ravnos next to a Tsuara.

The Knook Market9 viewsAnother area of the Knook Market, the Rroma's true cultural heritage where trade is commenced freely with other of the Natsia.

The Knook Market at Night.8 viewsAlong one of the thin alcove alleys that spider behind the East Hasting building fronts, the REAL Gypsy market lives all year long. Day and night it is open for the local Rroma populace to shop. Gaje are unawares of it's existance and the Rroma like to keep it that way. A place of real trade and barter, no Bujo or play.

The block of East Hastings Street that connects to the Bruge Area8 viewsTwo towering hotels dominate the skyline. One rents by the month, the other by the night. Both known to house the less than fortunate dizens of East Hasting's upper East-Side. While on the druge of Bruge's boundaries, many a Gaje low-life can be found in these dodgie environments. Police Squad Cars and Ambulances are a repeative sight and sound among the landscape. The place of town everyone warns you about! Don't go there if you can, if you know what I mean.

Another angle of the East Hastings Street block that connects Bruge10 viewsThe Corner building however should be noted, turning up Pandora Street off East Hastings is the third hotel on the block. Completely Rroma owned, tenements are of Rroma Familia and rent by the month or longer. The Maj family owns the Hotel, who's name sounds like Shh Me Hal rather than the Taj M'Hal. Obviously a family pun on themselves. Known Banjara concentration.

Pigeon Square, Triumph and Pandora. Most northern point of Bruge11 viewsHere the city comes to life. The square across from the Roost boasts the fair Rroma their ply in trade on the unsuspecting Gaje. From Fortune telling in the streets to carnival, something goes on day and night that draws many of Vancouver's other areas to Bruge in order to soak up flair of the exotic. Many shops, vendors and small carnival-like activities boast the bulkwark. Heavily policed, by the Gaje and the Rroma themselves.

Ovaltine Cafe, near the corner of Pandora and Triumph. In the heart of Bruge16 viewsThe Ovaltine Cafe despite being in the heart of Rroma territory and staked claim, summons a city-wide patronage for tasting the exotic cousine of Rroma Culture. Owned by the Plieter Family, all Usari from the Ukraine; it is also known to be an Elysium of sorts for the Rroma people to settle disputes without having to take them before the local Rom Baro's.

Pandora Street Front, Bruge Area. Corner of East Hastings Street.12 viewsPamir Food Market is the local grocer for all of Bruge. The building next door is home to the Phuri Dae women who've been remodling the shop below as a fresh bread bakery. Directly across the street is the Shish Me Hal Hotel owned by the Maj family.

Pandora Street Front, Bruge Area8 viewsThese shopfronts and apartment tenements line Pandora Street through the Bruge section of East Hastings. The block known simply as Pandora's Box with the local Rroma is actually the area's local cee of power.

Pigeon Square's Market Bazaar8 viewsOpen to the public and all of Vancouver, behind the carnival activity of Pigeon Square, the last fingers of Bruge can be felt at it's open Bazaar. Simply known as..the Bazaar. Here though tourist trinkets to food can be bout, sold and traded.
