This isn’t Heaven.
This isn’t Hell.
This isn’t anything you could have imagined.
DEATH WASN’T THE END.
DEATH WASN’T THE ANSWER.
DEATH WAS JUST THE BEGINNING.
SO WHAT DO YOU DO?
DO YOU LISTEN TO THE VOICE INSIDE YOUR
HEAD TELLING YOU JUST TO LET GO?
Or do you Still Fight,
Still Love,
Still Feel The PASSION
That Won’t Let You Rest?
Oblivion’s the easy way out.
Life after death is hard.
CHOOSE
You have eternity to weigh the consequences.
Just because you're dead doesn't mean your problems are over.
Welcome to Vancouver’s
The Restless
Here are the Rules for joining the ranks of the Restless Dead. This is the basic
wraith character. Our game will allow up to two characters within the Wraith
System (including subsystems). This is to ensure that you’re active with each.
If there’s something else you’re interested in talk to the Admin.
Step One- Death
At this point you don’t need to have everything fixed in your mind. Just try and
work out some of these major details and fill in as you go.
Who were you? – Though death claims us all it’s our lives that make us who we
are.
How did you die? – How did you feel deaths cold embrace? Was it sickness or just
a little to soon? Were you old? Or gunned down in your youth? This is a pivotal
part of who you are to become.
What keeps you here? – All wraiths survive on the passions which keep them
clinging to the Quick (living) and the Skin Lands. What is your reason to keep
going? What is keeping you here?
Step Two- Life Amongst the Dead
So you’ve got your notes from before in hand and you say ok what about the
sheet? Well here is where you start to put your ideas into traits. Some of these
are special to wraith and should be noted.
Life: A word or two that sums who you were in life. (An Actress, Over Worked
Cop, anything you could like of)
Death: A word or two saying how you died (Car Accident, Cancer, etc)
Regret: A small sentence explaining the characters main regret about his life.
(Incomplete work, never said I love you, etc)
Nature and Demeanors: These can be taken from any White Wolf book and if there
is not one that fits talk to the Admin and we will make one.
Shadow: Save this for Much Latter.
Next comes the assigning of points. The traits will go as follows for all
characters, and no starting wraiths will be more then this without prior
consent. ((**Please make note of the Restrictions and Changes made to the system
on the system page. **))
Attributes: 7/5/3
Abilities: 13/9/5
Advantages:
Arconoi: 5 points
Backgrounds: 7 points
Passions: 10 points
Fetters: 10 points
Record your base pathos (5 points plus Memoriam) and Willpower (5 points)
And finally 15 points of Freebies to spend.
Appearance: Something of note, when you die your Plasm forms to your mental
image of yourself. This maybe close to the way you were in life or drastically
different. Sometimes the Restless can’t explain the changes that have occurred.
Step Three- Transcending Oblivion
The Final Steps of Character Creation begin here. Once you reach this point your
only task left is to write the background story of your characters life. (I know
I’m leaving out the shadow) Try to fill in the details about friends and family
and the characters life, what was important to them even if it wouldn’t be for
anyone else. Once you have this story all the way to the characters death you’re
ready to go see the Admin about approval. Congrats.
What I’ve left out….. The Shadow.
The Shadow is the darkness within every soul given sentience by the act of
dieing. It’s no beast gnawing away at your humanity, or a boiling rage forcing
you to act…. No it is something more. It is you… Every time you’ve ever just
wanted to give up, to take the easy way, to hate and to hurt, you’ve fed it, and
now it wants to give you all you peace in oblivions empty arms.
The Admin will be creating the shadow of every approved character to add to the
terror of death. You’ll have no clue what’s coming, but then who ever does?
The Embodied
Here are the Rules for our new Subsystem The Embodied. This is not a basic
wraith character, it is a dead person who by one means or another has regained a
body in the Skin Lands and for better or worse… they are facing something no one
could have warned them about. The Subsystem deals with two types of characters,
one of which will simply be a revision of a character type from the Second
Edition, and the other something only hinted at in the final wraith book Ends of
Empire. Both offer a whole new realm of possibilities for the mature players who
can handle them. As such both are restricted and all characters must be worked
out with an Admin. I’m sorry for the trouble this might be but I assure you no
one on site wants to see these new possibilities shut down because of one bad
egg.
Type One- The Risen
Only rumored to exist and officially denied by everyone in power The Risen are a
special case. These are the Restless dead who have gained the knowledge of how
to return to their bodies and walk again in the Skin Lands, fueled by passions
so strong no living being would ever understand. But the price they pay is steep
and one and all must make a deal with the devil within to return from death.
These are very powerful creatures and are such because of the work and risks
they’ve taken to become what they are. Few make it without help and fewer still
survive long enough to even truly understand what they’ve done.
Creation- The Art of Rising from the Grave
Since this is a Restricted Character type I won’t go into to much detail as to
how to create a Risen. If you are interested and lack the books to do so speak
to the Admin and you will get help to do so.
Step One- Rising
Character Creation as A Risen is nearly identical to that of a normal Wraith
with these exceptions:
*Your Nature should be that of someone who’d do absolutely anything to
accomplish their goals
*A risen must dig them selves out of the grave, so keep in mind they must have
at least a strength trait of 3 to do so.
*Also a Risen will never be able to have an appearance greater then 3, you’re a
corpse after all.
* Arcanoi- A Risen Must have the following
+ Puppetry (1 or higher)
+ Life Web (1 or higher)
+ 1 dot of Ether Inhabit or Embody
Though seemingly useless after they have risen these must be bought to make the
leap back into their bodies. The Remaining dots of Arcanoi may be used on
whatever you’d like including two Embodied only Arcanoi.
* Backgrounds: Risen only get 5 dots of backgrounds and may not by Mentor or
Artifacts. These have to remain in the Underworld. Also Other backgrounds must
be noted as being in the Skin Lands or Underworld. (*** Risen May also buy the
Arcane Background from Mummy the Resurrection)
*Fetters (10 points) the most important needs to be the Conduit which will hold
the wraiths shadow (which can never be lost without destroying the risen.)
*Passions (10 points) the most important will be the Risen Driving Passion,
which is the passion which has brought them back from the dead.
* Freebies may be used to buy both Arcanoi and Vampiric Disciplines open to the
Risen (Potence, Celerity, and Fortitude)
* Willpower Begins at 6 dots and Pathos at 5 dots
Step Two- Cold to the Touch
Appearance is a big deal for the risen and should be carefully noted, the wounds
which killed the character will be visible as scars. Use this as another way to
flesh out your character.
The Shadow: Follow the normal Wraith Rules for this.
Type Two- Rots…
This type of Embodied was only hinted at in Ends of Empire, but was brought to
life as an Antagonist for Hunter the Reckoning. These however are not the beings
controlled by their shadows, nor are they Risen who due to their powerful
emotions and strength have managed to cross over. No, these are the poor souls
who have been caught in the 6th Great Maelstrom and have been forced across the
shroud into dead bodies not their own. Lacking the strength of a Risen and being
stuck within a Host body not their own these Characters Face Great Challenges
for those willing to play them. (Unrestricted) ((--These rules are based on ones
that The Emerald City's former Wraith Admin, Kronofear)
1: Tossing and Turning
Follow the Basic Restless creation rules,
*feel free to take Wraithly Backgrounds that the Rot would not have access to -
such as Relic and Artifact - but realize that the Rot will have to wait until
her return to the Shadow lands to use it.
*Freebie Points may be spent on Merits and Flaws, but keep in mind that some
will not work while across the Shroud. Please try to take ones that would be of
benefit, or detriment, while a Rot. Do not take Rot-specific Merits or Flaws at
this time.
Somewhere on the sheet, put six boxes. These are the Rot's Health Levels. They
should read OK / OK / OK / OK / OK / Incapacitated.
2: Choose a State of Decay
Attributes, Health Levels, soaking and healing are affected by how decayed the
corpse is. This is referred to as the State of Decay. Players can choose the
state their body starts out in: bodies in a worse State of Decay have fewer
Health Levels and Attributes, but they are harder to damage, and find it less
taxing to heal themselves. Full explanations of the soaking and damage rules can
be found on the Systems page, under Combat and Maintenance.
• Fresh bodies have an Appearance of one, and start out with six Health Levels.
• Rotting bodies have an Appearance of zero, and start out with five Health
Levels. They have also lost one dot from Dexterity.
• Rotten bodies also have an Appearance of zero, and start out with four Health
Levels. They have lost two dots from Dexterity, and one from Strength and one
from Stamina.
Corpses do not always come in the best condition. Bodies that have been shot,
beaten to death, poisoned, strangled or done in via a less intrusive way do not
accrue further Health Level penalties. However, bodies that have been hurt in
more gruesome ways may have lost additional health levels.
Assume one Health Level is lost for each limb that is completely missing. A
half-body (head, arms and trunk but nothing below the waist) would be missing 3
Health Levels. This loss can be reflected with the Missing Parts Flaw.
3 Choose Rot-Specific Merits and Flaws (optional)
Once the adjustments are done, you may take Rot-specific Merits and Flaws. The
Merits must be purchased with an equal number of Flaws. Any points gained from
Flaws that are not used to buy Merits are lost, and cannot be used for anything
else.
